SLADE

Tonight I attended the local chapter meeting of the AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators) in St. Louis (or SLADE). A quick Google search for their logo lead me to an awesome image of the glam-rock British band from the 70s. Maybe I need to make a glam-rock collection…although that seems to just involve a lot of hair. Hairy Pancreas? No. Don’t quit your day job, Jessica.

I feel lucky that a friend of a friend’s mom just happens to be sweet-as-pie and established in various local diabetes organizations and communities. Through her I was able to attend this meeting full of local educators, activists and RN’s who welcomed me with open arms (even though I’m not a SLADEr.) I had an opportunity to share Hanky Pancreas to a new group of people and learn more about the world of diabetes educators. It was great to see the excitement and interesting to think about how these could provide a different spin on pump training – - adding positive incentive for the wearer and some assistance in tackling the question “Well…how do I wear it?” Which seems to often be answered with how to hide it, because it isn’t really wearable.

If any of you glam-rock SLADE ladies (sladies?) are reading this, thank you for the support and feel free to get in touch if you want brochures sent to you or have any other feedback by emailing me at jessica@hankypancreas.com!

Hanks a million!
